Running on empty. . .

At some point in your life you have or will feel like you have run out of energy to do anything – you will feel like you are simply running on empty.

When the journey feels like it is too difficult and that everyone is out to get you – you just want to find somewhere to hide from your troubles or maybe you just feel like giving up.

Ephesians 3:14-21

14 For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge —that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

When was the last time you took a step back and tried to understand what was causing this empty feeling?

Are you taking on too much?

Are you trying to please everyone all the time?

Are you setting expectations of yourself or others too high all the time?

Maybe it is time to stop doing what you have done in the past – if you keep running on empty – it obviously isn’t working.

Let’s try some new strategies!

·        Pray (have conversations with God)

·        Make sure you are getting enough sleep

·        Try to eat well

·        Exercise (a walk is very relaxing)

·        Maintain social support

·        Find a hobby (one you like)

·        Pamper yourself

Much of what we experience in life can feel more stressful or less so depending of our point of view. Looking at things from an optimistic frame of mind can not only decrease your stress level, but bring more success in life.

Turning troubles over to God and asking him to give you the rest you need is the best way to relax.

Matthew 11:28-30

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
