Be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life.

We can change our life by changing how we think – but we cannot do it alone. We choose what we watch and read, the conversations we have, and the time we spend in the Word. If the mind is not filled with good, the enemy will fill it with bad.

Philippians 4:8 "Think about the things that are good and worthy of praise. Think about the things that are true and honorable and right and pure and beautiful and respected."

Recognize the power of your thought life.
Colossians 3:2
2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Choose God's worthy standard for your thought life from this day on.
Romans 8:6
6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

In the past, how have your thoughts affected your decisions or actions?
Ephesians 4:22-24
22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

How can you control outside sources of influence?
Isaiah 26:3
3 You will keep in perfect peace
those whose minds are steadfast,
because they trust in you.

What part can the Word of God play in renewing your mind?
Psalm 26:2-3
2 Test me, Lord, and try me,
examine my heart and my mind;
3 for I have always been mindful of your unfailing love
and have lived in reliance on your faithfulness.

In the battle to tame the tongue, our greatest battlefield is the mind. We are constantly at war for its control. To live right and speak right, we must think right. Proverbs 23:7 says it well, "For as he thinks within himself, so he is." Everything we do or say originates with a single thought. Filling our minds with truth will fill our lives with truth. Isaiah 26:3 teaches, "You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, whose thoughts are fixed on You."

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
be with us all, now and evermore.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
